Shite Cycle Lanes

Showing how utterly stupid some council's road traffic department are is always a good start to raising awareness on the appalling conditions cyclists are faced with on a daily basis. Of course when compared to best practices, such as cycling infrastructure in Copenhagen, it can be a useful technique to shame the council in question to actually do something about the situation.

A recent Guardian post illustrated some fine examples of abhorrent cycle lanes published in The Warrington Cycle Campaign's 'book of Crap Cycle Lanes'. The book catalogues 50 of the worst examples of cycle facilities in Britain. Theguardian is alos encouraging people to upload their own photos to their Flivkr Group, 'The world's Worst Cycle Lanes'.

Of course, Dublin is one of these horrendous examples of 'not giving a shit about cyclists syndrome' that many road traffic departments suffer from. This classic example is in Ranelagh on my route into the city centre. However, if you were to ask the council, what the hell? they would say that it is a parking free zone between 07:00-09:00 in the morning and 17:00-19:00 in the evening. Yeah, of course it is, go f*ck yourself.
